Hi everyone! Welcome back to our Pride Profile series! In this new series we will be sharing profiles of people in the LGBTQIA community – actors/organizers/fans/gamers – because REPRESENTATION MATTERS.
Today we are featuring Heidi Leung. Heidi is a Director with ClexaCon and lives in the SF/Bay Area. I had the pleasure of meeting Heidi last year at a ClexaCon meet up in SF and she’s such a great person!
We hope you enjoy this new series – AND getting to know Heidi!
Heidi Leung – Director, ClexaCon
Maverick Gamers (MG): What does ClexaCon mean to you?
Heidi Leung (HL): Above anything, ClexaCon means “community” to me. There’s a sense of belonging I feel during ClexaCon that I haven’t experienced any place else.
MG: What LGBTQIA moment/event in your lifetime has had the most influence on you?
HL: There are two. The first was California’s Proposition 8 passing, which eliminated the right of same-sex couples to marry. It brought forth so much sadness and fury in me. Then several years later, the Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act as unconstitutional.
It was joyous and momentous, my then girlfriend and I were so elated. And we’re now married!
MG: What’s your favorite TV series?
HL: Netflix’s Chef’s Table. I’m a hardcore foodie and watching the preparation of beautiful dishes in slow motion gives me goosebumps.
MG: What’s your favorite book?
HL: 1984 – George Orwell, and the Harry Potter series 🙂
MG: What’s the one thing about you few people know?
HL: I grew up in a bakery. My parents owned one and I started working as soon as I could see over the counter. And no, that does not mean I’m some fantastic baker these days. I’m definitely better at eating than making!
MG: What one word would you use to describe yourself?
HL: Loyal
