Lauren Flans – Co-Host, Coming Out with Lauren and Nicole

Maverick Gamers (MG): Biggest comedic influence, and why?

Lauren Flans (LF): Gilda Radner and Madeline Kahn. Two incredibly funny, fearless, bad-ass women, who were 100% committed to everything they did, and weren’t afraid to look ridiculous or “unattractive” for the sake of comedy.

MG: Where did the idea for Coming Out Pod come from?

LF: For me personally, the main impetus came from facilitating the Women’s Coming Out Group at the L.A. LGBT Center. I wanted to give the women a resource that they could turn to the other six days of the week when the group wasn’t meeting, so I searched online for a coming out podcast. I couldn’t believe that one didn’t exist, so I was like “Fuck it; I’ll do it myself” and asked Nicole!

MG: What’s your favorite Ship?

LF: COPHINE WAS ENDGAME!!!

MG: What’s your favorite TV series?

LF: Orphan Black

MG: Dolls or Action figures?

LF: Action figures FOR SURE! I swear to God this is 100% true: when I was a little, little kid, my dad brought me home a Barbie one day. I took off her shoes, looked at them, and said, “How does she walk in these?”

MG: What’s the one thing about you few people know?

LF: I am an astounding parallel parker. I once fit into a space on the first try that was so small, when I got out of my car, two women on the street who had been watching me applauded.

MG: What advice would you give your younger self?

LF: I know it seems like the biggest deal in the world that you didn’t get cast as Carrie in the Staples Players production of Carousel, and you definitely DESERVED to get cast as Carrie in the Staples Players production of Carousel, but trust me…it doesn’t matter that you didn’t get cast as Carrie in the Staples Players production of Carousel.

Nicole Pacent – Co-Host, Coming Out with Lauren and Nicole

Maverick Gamers (MG): What’s your favorite TV series?

Nicole Pacent (NP): Game of Thrones

MG: What’s your favorite book?

NP: Grown Up Pick: The Fountainhead

Real Pick: The Harry Potter Series, specifically Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire, and Deathly Hallows (who can choose just one?!)

MG: Looking at all the women in history, who would you say you respect the most?

NP: Lol, I don’t think this question is broad enough… ? There are far, FAR too many incredible women in history to choose one I respect most. In our present-day landscape, I’d say Elizabeth Warren and Michelle Obama are right at the top for me.

MG: What’s the one thing about you few people know?

NP: My first pet was a Grow-A-Frog that I got in the mail as a tadpole, and I named him Rainbow Sunshine.

MG: If they made a movie of your life story… what would it be called?

NP: “Finding Neverland” (THERE ARE NO ORIGINAL IDEAS)

MG: What one word would you use to describe yourself?

NP: Empathetic
